Spring into Shape: Tips to Trigger Weight Loss

You heard that Punxsutawney Phil declared that Spring will be arriving early this year?  While that’s great news for everyone who craves warmer weather, it also means that for those of us with fitness goals, we have less time to get toned and beach ready!  If that season-predicting groundhog is right, Spring will be here before we know it.  It’s time to kick-start our weight loss this year.

How we eat, what we eat, and when we eat are all important factors in jumpstarting the body’s weight loss journey.  In addition to staying well hydrated, we need to help our bodies burn more fat.  Here are three foods that can help power through weight loss

Protein Bars

An important aspect of losing weight is tracking calories.  In simplest terms, we need to burn more calories than we’re eating.  If we create a calorie deficit, then we begin to lose weight.  Protein bars are an excellent option to help track calories.  Whether they’re used as an on-the-go snack mid-morning or mid-afternoon, or as a total meal replacement, protein bars are an excellent way to know exactly how many calories you consumed

Nutritional Powders

Powders exist as an excellent tool to kick-start weight loss.  Flavored powders can be added to a variety of liquids including everything from water to kefir.  Whether you’re looking to add protein to help repair muscles or fiber to help flush your body, there’s a nutritional powder to help you on your weight loss journey.  And the best part?  Nutritional powders come in a wide variety of flavors, so you’re sure to find something you like.

Smoothies

Smoothies can offer significant nutrition in relatively few calories.  Not fond of spinach, kale, and collards?  No problem!  Pair them with a sweet fruit like pineapple and add your supplement of choice.  Whether you make them from scratch at home or create them with a nutritionally-balanced mix, smoothies can become a lower calorie option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  A balanced smoothie should include essential vitamins and minerals as well as protein and fiber.  Fiber is a key ingredient to keeping you feeling full; the fuller you feel the less likely you are to overeat.

Eating well is only part of the weight loss equation.  In addition to monitoring calories and opting for foods that really pack a nutritional punch, exercise is a key component to burning calories.  Skipping elevators in favor of stairs can only be the beginning.  Commitment is the key to seeing results; find a class that you love and go a few times a week.  Wake early and get that morning workout in.  And just remember: better health is always worth it.
