What is Earth Day?
The first celebration happened on April 22, 1970, and it began by Gaylord Nelson, a Senator in the US. During this day, twenty million people met in the streets of the US to denounce the Industrial revolution. As a result, a movement that supported environmental conservation emerged. Although it arose in the US, Earth Day became known to the rest of the world in 1990. Every year on this date, adults and kids alike offer to do activities that would make the world a better place. They organize causes meant to clean up the environment, such as collecting garbage, recycling and planting more trees. Additionally, on the Earth Day of 2009, Disney launched a documentary named the Earth.
How people around the world have celebrated Earth Day in the Past
In given schools, students and teachers continue to celebrate the Earth Day for a whole week. This is so they can educate more about the earth and how to conserve it for the coming generations. On April 22nd, 2009, the Earth Day was formerly renamed by the United Nations. It became the International Mother Earth Day. On April 22, 2011, the Earth Day Network in Afghanistan planted twenty-eight thousand trees. On the same day in 2012, over one hundred thousand people rode bikes in China instead of cars. They did it to show their efforts to reduce carbon emissions and to save gas. Lastly, the people of Panama planted one hundred kinds of endangered orchids and nurtured them to prevent their disappearance. They did it to commemorate Earth Day.
